Date: January 20, 2017Posted by: Marionette Martinez

Atty. Benita Marasigan-Santos, who had been one of the oldest living alumnae of St. Paul Manila, died peacefully in her sleep on 3 January 2017 at the age of 98. She is survived by two daughters, Sylvia Pineda (HS 1964) and Corina Unson (HS 1970). Her wake was held in the Levesville Hall until 6 January.

Ate Bening’s ashes were inurned in the Marasigan Family Museum in Bulacan. She was the granddaughter of the hero, Marcelo H. del Pilar, her mother being del Pilar’s daughter, Anita, of whom he wrote poignantly in the essay, “Ang Piso ni Anita” while in exile in Spain.

Atty. Santos was very highly esteemed by her colleagues and friends and the members of the many religious and civic organizations in which she was actively involved. Her Alma Mater recognized her unparalleled contributions to the school’s legacy by conferring on her one of the five Caritas Christi Centennial Awards.

A memorial service will be held for Ate Bening in the Levesville Hall on 11 February 2017. The 9:00 A.M. Mass, which will be officiated by her long-time friend Fr. John Leydon, MSSC, of Our Lady of Remedies Parish (Malate Church), will be followed by a reception in the same venue.
