St. Paul University Manila’s men’s volleyball team won first place in Season Six of the Metro Manila Athletic Conference (MMAC) Volleyball Tournament held from March 1 to April 7, 2019.

The team was led by coach and former volleyball player, Francis Calilan, and the middle blocker and captain ball, Gerich Fernandez. They both steered the team to victory, alongside teammates, including outside hitter, John Felven Roda, utility player, Emeraigne Reyes, libero, Anjelo Bron, and setter, John Nicole Bugtong.

The team competed against other schools throughout the season, such as Asian College Quezon City, St. Paul University Quezon City, Asian College, St. Joseph, and University of Asia and the Pacific.

The women’s volleyball varsity team, on the other hand, snatched fourth place in the tournament.

Calilan thanked and acknowledged each player’s hard work and effort throughout the competition.

“Some players shine because of the awards, but kung sa mga laro madami silang nag-shine throughout the games, so that’s a job well done talaga sa amin (Some players shine because of the awards, but looking at the individual plays, a lot of players displayed stellar individual performances, and that is a commendable job for our team),” Calilan commented after being asked about the performance of his players.

The Metro Manila Athletic Conference is an annual sports league, which includes volleyball, basketball, and chess.
