Advisory on English Editing Certification

The Vice President for Academics and Research sets the guidelines for the issuance of English Editing Certificate as part of the completion of thesis or dissertation in the undergraduate and graduate programs.  The structured four-step editing process ensures clarity and accuracy in academic manuscripts.

Step 1.  The thesis or dissertation adviser emails an accredited editor attaching the manuscript in Microsoft Word format and copying the researcher in the correspondence.  It is important to note that manuscripts must undergo final revisions and approval from panelists before entering this process.  Furthermore, SPU Manila has an identified pool of editors.  Advisers may request the College Assistants to identify a member from the pool of editors for the assignment of editing work.

Step 2.  The assigned editor accepts the assignment.  At this stage, the researcher may also communicate directly with the editor for coordination.

Step 3.  This is the actual editing stage, which typically takes 1 to 1.5 weeks. This timeline can be expedited upon request, though a rush fee may apply. Editing covers grammar and APA formatting, and editors proofread preliminary pages, chapters, and references page. Additional charges may apply depending on the length of the manuscript.  Once editing is complete, the researcher pays the corresponding fee directly to the editor:

  • ₱3,000 for undergraduate theses
  • ₱6,000 for graduate theses
  • ₱8,000 for dissertations.

Step 4.  Finally, the editor signs the English Editing Certification Form and returns the print-ready revised manuscript to the researcher.
