Manila, Philippines – Hospitality Management students of St. Paul University Manila embarked on a 14-day apprenticeship (from June 22 to July 5) aboard M/V 2Go vessels as part of the 2Go Apprenticeship Program. They worked in different areas, like Food and Beverage, Housekeeping, and the Galley, gaining real-world experience in the maritime and logistics industry.
Throughout the program, the students had the chance to apply what they learned in school. They helped in the daily operations of food courts, like Island Fiesta, Horizon Café, and 2Go Café. In the galley (kitchen), they helped prepare and serve meals, learning about food safety and teamwork. In the Housekeeping Department—Decks 5 to 7—they assisted in cleaning and maintaining different room classes, including Mega Value, Tourist, Business Class, and Suites.

Aside from technical skills, students also improved in soft skills, like communication, time management, and coordination. They learned to solve problems on the spot, adapt to fast-paced situations, and work with different departments. Many students shared that they became more confident, responsible, and aware of what it is like to be part of a real work environment.
In the end, the apprenticeship helped the students grow both personally and professionally. They built connections with experienced staff, learned how a shipping company works, and realized the importance of patience, discipline, and dedication. Students also gave some suggestions to improve the program, such as providing more background training before boarding and offering a wider variety of meals. Despite the challenges, the students said the experience was worth it and would recommend it to future students.

The 2Go Apprenticeship Program proved to be more than just a school requirement; it was a journey that taught lessons beyond the classroom.
