SPU Manila Hosts Orientation for College Students and Parents

On August 12, 2024, college students and their parents gathered at St. Maurice Hall, HTMC Building of St. Paul University Manila for this year’s College Students and Parents Orientation. The gathering served as the beginning of a new academic journey for the students, especially the freshmen, whom the SPU Manila community is thrilled to welcome for the year ahead.

Mr. Jordan Manlapaz and Ms. Manilen Rentegrado were the hosts for the event, which started with an Opening Prayer, led by Ms. Moira Fadri, and the singing of the Philippine National Anthem. The hosts then engaged in interviewing several students and parents regarding their expectations for this school year. After that, Sr. Ma. Evangeline Anastacio, SPC, University President, gave her Opening Remarks, highlighting the University's vision and mission and emphasizing on holistic education, while also expressing her enthusiasm for the upcoming academic year.

Sr. Nicole de Marie Dabalus, SPC, VP for Christian Formation and Student Services, discussed the University's educational objectives and beliefs and its dedication to supporting students' academic and spiritual development. Dr. Lourna Tagay then delivered a thorough orientation on class schedules, academic policies, and resources for students and parents. The assembly included a Q&A session to address concerns and inquiries about orientation topics. 

After Dr. Tagay’s comprehensive talk on academics, the discussion shifted to the different departments, starting with Dr. Jennifer Olivar, Dean of the College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences, discussing the FLOW Learning Management System, the University’s medium for online classes. Ms. Rowena Cayanan, University Librarian, discussed the libraryservices and policies on loaning books and their usage. Sr. Ma. Vicenta Estrella, SPC, VP for Finance Services, discussed the financial policies and procedures. Ms. Judith Alderete, Head of the Students Affairs Office, presented the functions of the Student Affairs Office. Mr. Julius Riogelon, OIC for ICT, gave an outline of the services offered by ICT Office to the students. Mr. Ajocrivipor Agojo then gave a presentation on guidance and career placement services.

Shortly after, Dr. Bernard Regalado, MD talked about Drug Abuse Prevention, followed by Engr. Mervin Cequeñadiscussing disaster preparedness under RED Management. Ms. Anne Bungalon, RN, discussed the University’s health services, and Ms. Elvira Manalansan introduced the CDC or the Community Development Center. After that, Dr. Regalado was given a certificate of appreciation followed by a photo opportunity. Dr. Sharon Manguerra-Mahusay, the University’s Data Protection Officer, gave a talk on data privacy to conclude the orientation.

A Q&A session followed the discussions, providing attendees with an opportunity to address any queries or concerns they may have. Afterwards, Ms. Moira Fadri led the Closing Prayer to formally close the insightful orientation.
