On 29 August 2014, St. Paul University Manila held the Buwan ng Wika 2014 with the theme “Filipino: Wika ng Pagkakaisa” in the Fleur-de-lis Theater. All the students, staff, and faculty members watched the performance prepared by students from the different college programs.
The first part of the program was the dance competetion and freshmen initiation, entitled “Fiesta Pilipinas.” There were seven groups of contestants. Each group presented well known dances from different regions of the Philippines with unique and extravagant costumes, as well as lively and well-coordinated steps.
From the College of Business and Management: the BSA/FMA program started the celebration with a festive dance showcasing bright lights as they showed their interpretation of Bailes de Luces of La Castellana from Negros Occidental. The BS Tourism captivated the crowd as they joyfully presented the Karakol Festival of Makati City to express love and the need to preserve nature. The Bachelor of Business Administration Entrepreneurship program captured our hearts when they dramatized the Passion of Christ in their presentation of the Moriones Festival in Marinduque while the CSIT program showed a unique interpretation of the Masskara Festival in Bacolod, Negros Occidental as they showed their colorful masks with beautiful smiles and different facial expressions. Finally, the HRM students delighted the audience with their own version of the famous Sinulog Festival of Cebu while chanting in honor of the Sto. Ñino.
From the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education: the AB Mass Communication brought us back to the Spanish era as they portrayed the Sandugo Festival dance number, famous in Tagbilaran, Bohol, while the BS Pyschology, together with the Education program, filled the stage with colors as they presented the Panagbenga Flower Festival of Baguio City.
This year, the College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences and the College of Music and the Performing Arts students teamed up and elated the audience as they proved that the Kadayawan Festival of Davao is truly the festival of all festivals and were hailed as the champion of the 2014 Freshmen Initiation. Other winners were: 1st runner-up, the BS Education and BS Psychology for presenting the Panagbenga Festival and 2nd runner-up, the Moriones Festival presented by the BSBA/ENTREPRENEURSHIP.
Aside from the competition, the event also highlighted the unity of each college program as one family in welcoming the new babies, our beloved freshmen students, as they were guided and trained by their mommies and daddies from the Level IV students. This was truly a heart-warming event in which we can truly say that “We are one as Paulinians, and one as a Nation.”
