Student volunteers of St. Paul University Manila bonded with nature as they participated in a repotting activity at La Mesa Eco Park on April 4, 2025.
Despite the scorching heat, the participants' willingness became the motivation to push through and re-pot 303 kamagong seedlings, which will be used in future tree planting activities.
Though the initial tree planting activity was not carried out due to off season, Mr. Felipe Quintana Sore Jr. of Production Forest Management Section (PFMS) Conservation and Development Division (CDD) of DENR National Capital Region emphasized the importance of the repotting activity because of how it gives the seedlings time to bloom in preparation for the tree planting season in June to October.
He also thanked the students for going out of their classrooms to help the environment.
One of the student volunteers, Mr. Jonel G. Bautista from the College of Education and Liberal Arts, shed light on the importance of participating in environmental activities because it connects us more deeply to the Earth and makes us appreciate the environment. He also stated that such activities make us more aware of environmental issues and motivates us to take appropriate action.
This activity also marked a defining moment in Ms. Ricci Madridejos’ journey as the newly crowned Ms. Paulinian Ambassadress 2025. With environmental sustainability as her main advocacy, she highlighted the importance of repotting because it helps the environment by cutting down on waste, improving air quality and absorbing carbon dioxide. She also said, “Taking action against climate change is urgent. Small efforts can make a big difference, and as we near irreversible damages, we must act fast to protect nature.”
Alongside Ms. Ricci was Mr. Gabriel Garces, the Mr. Paulinian Ambassador 2025, who also took part in the repotting activity. “As a Paulinian Ambassador who can be a role model for my fellow students and the youth, I believe it's important that we involve ourselves in activities that give back to nature. And I say giving back because nature has always been there for us, and it's our responsibility to take care of it, not only for our own benefit, but for the future generations as well, “Mr. Garces added.
