“Maybe tonight, as we light up our University, Pauliwanag will be a good reminder of our core value of Commission,” Dr. Maynard Cornejo said in his Welcome Remarks. On December 5, 2025, the Paulinian Community gathered at the SPU Manila Quadrangle for the opening of the Christmas Lights. The event began at 5:20 PM.

His statement served as a springboard to reflect on a brighter future and an enlightenment to all–that as the evening progresses, may Pauliwanag serve as a reminder that there is light within the darkest times. Even in the midst of a heavy storm, may every Paulinian strive to look forward to the Light of Jesus Christ to find a future without fear. “Ilaw ang pag-asa,” he emphasized. Afterwards, the liturgy and gospel reflection were read.

Sophia Cinco and Lala Pascual officially opened the ceremony by calling on Dr. Lourna Tagay for her Opening Remarks. Dr. Tagay spoke of the Star of Bethlehem, a celestial phenomenon and a simple gift that brought hope to everyone. She wished that all Paulinians will receive the gifts they are wishing for and the lights will bring hope to humanity amidst the present-day chaos.

Following the introductory remarks, the staff and students gave upbeat performances.  The SPUM Chorale sang “Diwa ng Pasko,” captivating everyone with their vocals.  The Senior High School Band sang “Bibingka” by Ben&Ben and “Tuloy Tuloy Pa Rin ang Pasko.”  The Paulinian Student Government enthralled the audience by dancing to “Last Christmas” and “All I Want for Christmas.”

Before the last performance, everyone gathered for the CDC segment hosted by Ms. Elvira Manalansan and the Grant-a-Wish Program. The latter was led by Dr. Francis Calilan and Ms. Edana Sopoco. This little gesture gave joy not only to the students but also to the staff who work and help build the Paulinian community. Through everyone’s help, little by little, the pillars of the Paulinian community were left with joy that they would bring home.

The Grant-a-Wish Project was followed by Sr. Ma Evangeline Anastacio, SPC, who gave her Pauliwanag message. “The stars were the basis of love—and others believed.” She explained how one single star was seen by those who had nothing and by those who were searching. A light illuminated the Earth. “Their fears faded, their hearts were filled, and they understood this Child was the light this world needed.” She correlated this with what the country is experiencing now. Through faith, the country’s problems would be resolved, because during these darkest times, a Star will come, a light amidst the dark shadows cast upon the Philippines.

Pauliwanag would not be complete without the Christmas Lighting: The lights illuminated the school. Fireworks brought smiles to the faces of the Paulinian community. The night ended with the playing of the Paulinian Christmas ID at 7:06 PM.
