DISASTER PREPAREDNESS OF PUBLIC HEALTH NURSES IN MALABON CITY

Abstract

The study sought to determine the level of disaster preparedness of public health nurses in Malabon City. The researcher utilized descriptive quantitative research approach by providing a questionnaire and survey forms. Respondents were identified through purposive sampling. The researcher employed a research made questionnaire which measures the level of disaster preparedness of Public Health Nurses in Malabon City. The questionnaire was validated by four experts and pilot tested in order to determine reliability of the instrument. Significant findings of the study include the following (1) The respondents are middle adult, married and with 11-20 years of service in the public health nursing profession, (2) the public health nurses obtained a rating of 1.53 with a verbal meaning of "Not Prepared" for disaster prevention and mitigation, (3) the public health nurses obtained a rating of 2.37 with a verbal meaning of "Somewhat Prepared" for disaster preparedness, (4) the public health nurses obtained a rating of 2.49 with a verbal meaning of "Somewhat Prepared" for disaster response, (5) the public health nurses obtained a rating of 2.36 with a verbal meaning of "Somewhat Prepared" for disaster rehabilitation and recovery, (6) age and length of service of the respondents showed a significant relationship with their level of disaster preparedness,
