A Day of Joy and Celebration for Our Beloved President!

ST. PAUL UNIVERSITY MANILA – On the 18th of November 2023, an exciting and happy day, the SPU Manila community gathered to celebrate the birthday of its University President, Sr. Evangeline Anastacio, SPC. The day was filled with fiesta-themed dances, colorful decorations, vibrant music, and delicious Filipino cuisine. The atmosphere buzzed with enthusiasm and joy as faculty, staff, and students came together to honor Sr. Evangeline, expressing their gratitude and admiration for her leadership and dedication to the University.

Before the event began, the chapel was filled with joyful anticipation. The Mass was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Paul J. Marquez, together with Rev. Fr. Jude A. Genovia, who delivered an inspiring homily emphasizing the values and principles that Sr. Evangeline has instilled in the SPU Manila community. Among the Mass attendees were Sister’s relatives, the President’s Council, Deans and Chairpersons, and the Paulinian Student Government. Additionally, children from Barangay 697 and KAISAKA partner communities participated in the joyful celebration, which showed SPUM’s wide connections and outreach initiatives.

As the celebration continued, attendees waited for the President in front of the chapel. As she made her way to the venue, some teachers and students wearing Filipino cultural costumes did a lively dance, creating an air of excitement as they made their way to the Levesville Hall, which had been magically transformed into a lively and vibrant Pista sa Nayon scene, decorated with colorful ornaments, which set the tone for a wonderful celebration.

The hosts, Mr. Jordan Manlapaz and Ms. Gertrude Montenegro, brought a dash of excitement to the event. A trivia session was held before the games, allowing everyone to participate in some fun and instructive moments. The first game brought laughter as well as excitement as the children took part in the "Longest Breathing" challenge, a playful competition. Laughter sounded in the hall, creating a joyful atmosphere. The second game, "The Boat Is Sinking," allowed the SPU Manila community to bond with children from Barangay 697 and KAISAKA partner communities. This engaging activity showed the link between the University and its surrounding communities, coming together in a spirit of camaraderie.

A series of special performances followed. The Paulinian Student Government performed the lively Itik-itik, followed by another folk dance performed by the non-academic personnel. Finally, the Kagawaran ng mga Guro sang “Mamang Sorbetero.” The celebration continued with a video presentation of heartfelt birthday greetings from Sr. Evangeline’s relatives, expressing their gratitude and well wishes. Dr. Raul Sunico, Dean of the College of Music and the Performing Arts, graced the celebration with a beautiful rendition of a kundiman, adding a touch of musical elegance to the program. The SPU Manila Chorale then gave a special performance.

As the event progressed, the highlight arrived—the blowing of candles, led by Dr. Mary Grace Leongson and the President's Council. Sr. Evangeline stood during the delighted singing and blowing of the candles. After that, she gave a heartfelt thank you message. She expressed her gratitude to everyone who came, emphasizing the value of community, solidarity, and the shared joy that filled the event. The birthday celebration of Sr. Evangeline became more than just a celebration—it became a testament to the rich tapestry of relationships, shared experiences, and vibrant spirit that defines the SPU Manila community.

Concluding the day, everyone gathered in front of the chapel for a photo opportunity.  Faculty, staff, students, and community members stood side by side, a visual representation of the unity that defines SPU Manila. As the camera clicked and froze the moment in time, it immortalized the laughter, shared stories, and the sense of community that made Sr. Evangeline's birthday celebration truly special. The images became more than just photographs; they were memories to be treasured and remembered by generations to come.
